- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup beef broth (or water + beef bouillon)
- 1/3 cup soy sauce (low-sodium recommended)
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
- 10 oz linguine (or substitute spaghetti)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water (for the slurry)
- 4 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the linguine until al dente, then drain.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef, and cook until browned and moisture evaporates, about 6–8 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in brown sugar, beef broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ground ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Bring mixture to a gentle simmer.
- In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water to create a slurry, then pour into the skillet and stir until sauce thickens, about 2–3 minutes.
- Combine the cooked linguine with the sauce in the skillet and toss until well coated, heating through for 1–2 minutes.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.
Notes
Serve with steamed broccoli, a cucumber salad, or toasted sesame seeds for added flavor.
