Description
A quick and easy chicken shawarma recipe featuring marinated chicken served in warm pita bread, topped with creamy garlic sauce and fresh vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb boneless chicken thighs
- 2 tablespoons shawarma spice mix
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup lettuce, shredded
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 cucumber, sliced
- 1/2 cup creamy garlic sauce
Instructions
- Combine the olive oil, lemon juice, shawarma spice mix, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the chicken thighs to the bowl and ensure they’re well coated with the marinade.
- Cover the bowl and let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour (overnight for optimal flavor).
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the marinated chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into strips.
- Warm the pita breads on the grill or skillet for about a minute, just enough to soften them.
- Assemble your shawarma by placing sliced chicken, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and cucumber in the pita.
- Drizzle the creamy garlic sauce generously over the top.
- Serve immediately and savor the flavor!
Notes
For a vegetarian option, swap chicken with marinated roasted vegetables or chickpeas.
