- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package frozen French fries (24 oz)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: pickles, ketchup, mustard, diced tomatoes, green onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Heat a skillet over medium. Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for 6-8 minutes until the meat is browned and onion is soft.
- Season the beef with salt and pepper, then drain excess fat.
- Transfer beef and onion to a bowl, stir in the cream of mushroom soup.
- Spread half of the frozen French fries in the baking dish.
- Spoon the beef mixture over the fries and smooth into a layer.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
- Arrange remaining French fries on top of the cheese.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until fries are golden and cheese is melted.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing; add optional toppings and serve hot.
Notes
For extra crispy fries, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end. Cool and store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
