Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  2. Slowly add 1/4 cup of cold water while mixing until the dough comes together. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut it into 4×4 inch squares.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  6. Spoon a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each dough square. Fold the corners towards the center to form a pocket and pinch to seal.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk the beaten egg and milk. Brush the egg wash over each Danish.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
